Excellence in Education
It was the Pleasanton Legislative Action Committee for Education
(PLACE) that started what is known as the PPIE award. Some
of the original members included Cindy McGovern, Juanita Haugen,
Sue Rose, Sandy Dibias, Mary Pat Hawkins and Judy Ditter.
This group of dedicated parents and community members originally
formed to follow bills that affected education through the
legislature. An idea was hatched to honor the outstanding
people in the school district -- both certified and non -certified.
After Pleasanton Partners In Education was formed, the PPIE
director, Donna McMillion picked up the baton and took over
the Awards, taking it the next level in community recognition.
The last Excellence in Education Award was given in 2004 under
PPIE.
In the spring of 2007 the Pleasanton PTA Council and Pleasanton
Unified School District has partnered to bring back the Excellence
in Education Awards.
