Managing Your Child's 504 Plan

Monday, May 15, 7 to 8:30 pm
Pleasanton Middle School MPR, 5001 Case Avenue, Pleasanton

This presentation is geared toward parents who have a child with an existing 504 Plan. 
Eligibility or assessment for a 504 Plan will not be discussed during this presentation.

            • How to construct an effective 504 Plan
            • How to best collaborate and advocate within a 504 Plan
            • Ideas for accommodations based on disability
            • How to help your child advocate for themselves
            • Tips and suggestions from other parents 
Kathleen Rief is the Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports Coordinator for PUSD. 
She has served as the district's SDC teacher and as a site administrator. 
Rebecca Thackaberry is an experienced teacher who currently works 
as an advocate for students receiving special education services and students with 504 Plans. 
Noreen Senner is the mom of three boys, two with active 504 Plans. 
She has served as PTA president at Hearst Elementary 
and is the VP of Student and Community Concerns in the Pleasanton PTA Council.

to celebrate this achievement! Light refreshments will be served following the ceremony.

Leadership Training Breakfast

The Pleasanton PTA Council is hosting a leadership training/get-together breakfast 
on Thursday, May 11, at Vic's All-Star Kitchen (201-A Main Street), starting at 9:30 am.

All current and incoming Pleasanton PTA Executive Board members are invited to gather for sharing and leadership development. A hot breakfast will be provided for all PTA officers.

Depending on participation, we may break into groups by officer position (e.g., treasurers, parliamentarians, presidents) so that unit officers can get to know one another, as well as their PTA Council counterparts, for training and support.

Please RSVP by Friday, May 5, so that we can provide Vic's with a headcount for breakfast.

2017 Excellence in Education Awards Program.  

To nominate an outstanding staff member in the Pleasanton Unified School District, please fill out a nomination form, and submit it along with your nomination letter to excellence@pleasantonpta.org.

Nominations are due by 4 pm on Friday, March 17.

2017 Advocacy Day for Education
Friday, March 24, 9 am to 2:30 pm
San Ramon Community Center

Join other parents, educators, elected officials, and community members for the 37th annual PTA Advocacy Day for Education hosted by the Pleasanton PTA Council, San Ramon Valley Council of PTAs, and Las Trampas Creek Council of PTAs. 

We will explore topics related to student success, well-being, safety, and how to advocate for a student-centered approach to education. The agenda includes
  • Student Well-Being and Safety, with Jon Kleiman, Parent Education Director for Challenge Success. The first part of his presentation will define the issues of health and well-being of today's students based on national trends and survey results concerning sleep-deprivation, stress, anxiety, and cheating. The second part will present solutions for families and school sites.

  • California's New Accountability System and its Relationship to the Local Control and Accountability Plan Process, with a representative of California State PTA State Legislator Panel - moderated by John Festerwald, Editor, EdSource 
    • Steve Glazer, State Senator (District 7) 
    • Catharine Baker, California Assemblymember (District 16) 
    •  Tim Grayson, California Assemblymember (District 14)

2017 Founders Day Luncheon

Please join us in celebrating Pleasanton PTA community volunteers and leaders at our annual Founders Day luncheon!

Opening remarks will be presented by Stacey Gustafson, an author, humor columnist, and Pleasanton mom. Her book, Are You Kidding Me? My Life with an Extremely Loud Family, Bathroom Calamities, and Crazy Relatives, is available on Amazon and eBooks.

Our keynote speaker will be Linda Turnbull, the executive director and founder of Teen EsteemLinda's topic will be iParenting: Intentional Parenting for Overextended Kids.

Linda is passionate about promoting a healthy lifestyle for teens, especially regarding high-risk adolescent behavior. Linda sits on numerous committees and consults for boards similar in nature to Teen Esteem. She and her husband, Ken, live in Danville and have two grown daughters whom they raised in the San Ramon Valley.

Teen Esteem’s mission is to educate and empower students, families, educators, and the community on challenges young people face, emphasizing the importance of respect for self and others.

The lunch buffet will feature spinach salad, a fresh baked-bread basket, parmesan and pesto pasta, grilled chicken breast, seasonal vegetables, and assorted cookies. Iced tea, coffee, and soda will also be served.
