PUSD and the Pleasanton PTA Council are working together, as part of the statewide Raise the Base coalition, to advocate for more adequate school funding for our students. Under California’s current funding formula (LCFF), districts like Pleasanton, which is funded in the bottom 10% statewide, receive significantly less funding per student than the statewide average despite high Bay Area costs. At the same time, rising costs have outpaced funding increases over the last few years and, coupled with declining enrollment, have created ongoing structural fiscal challenges for the District.
PUSD is addressing these challenges through local action and advocacy for more adequate funding for all students at the state level. The District is also closely following funding reform proposals currently under consideration in the Legislature, including AB 1204. Proposed changes under AB 1204 do not add new funding and may widen funding differences between districts, further increasing pressure on programs and services for our students. The District has therefore formally expressed concerns about AB 1204’s potential impact on districts like Pleasanton (view opposition letter).
